IIS Configuration to access SQL server

  • Q2:

You want to allow users to query SQL Server 2000 using their Internet browser via the Internet. What components of SQL Server 2000 are required?

    A2:

First of all, you need the SQL Server service. Next, you need to configure IIS to access SQL Server 2000 using some of the client communication components. The specific client communication components will depend on your specific configuration.

I do not know which forum I should post. I think some one in SQL 2005 will kno w the answer.  I am preparing my ceritifcation test. I am wondering how I can see the IIS configure to access SQL server 2000.

  • Hi,

In SQL Server 2000 Start Menu there is an entry Configure SQL XML Support for IIS. It brings up IIS Virtual Directory Management for SQL Server which is sort of IIS Manager but with a couple of additions: in the Virtual Directory properties you may specify what type of queries you want to allow, what are data sources and what are schemas and databases.

Also, you have to have SQLXML the latest version download from MS Website and install if was not installed previously.

  • Thanks. But in the Virtual Directory properties , It seem no way for me to get into the property. Thanks.
