Getting the following Dr. Watson error when trying to install SQL 2000 onto an NT4 box that already has SQL 6.5 (I want to run the upgrade wizard and upgrade DBs to 2000):
"An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
cnfgsvr.exe
Exception access violation (0xc0000005), Addres 0x7800cb04"
Seems to happen at the very end of the install. Anybody seen this before? I have the sqlstp.log and dasetup.log files. Both are default instances.
I am getting disgusted with the box, and the next step is to open a call with Microsoft unless someone has seen this issue before.
Thanks,
- JB

A suggestion here was made that you copy the CD to disk and install from there.
Can't hurt I guess.
The systems fine with no users loggged in. Can we keep it that way ?br>

For those interested, problem was an outdated MDAC on the server. When I installed the latest version that the OS could take, I was then able to install SQL 2000 default instance on the box. I will be trying the in-place upgrade soon.
Thanks.
