  When connecting to SSMS, the database shows online and I am able to run queries against it.

  But, while trying to backup the database it is giving me this error message "Could not run BEGIN TRANSACTION in database because the database is in emergency mode or is damaged and must be restarted".

  Have you run a consistency check on this database recently?

  Best case, the ALTER DATABASE name  SET ONLINE may work.

  Worst case, you may be restoring from a good backup.
