My Maintenance Plan (Complete backup, specified user DBs) failed. However, SQL Server does not report anything, not in Maint. Plan History, or SQL Server Log. In Event Viewer, Application Log I see a message that my job has failed but not much else.

Under management, (make sure your agent is running)expand SQL Server Agent, click on jobs and look for the red circle with the white x. This will show what task of the maintenance plan failed. Also right click the agent and look at display error log...
option.

Right click your maintenance plan --> maintenance plan history to see any errors.
You can also log the errors into report by double click your maintenance plan --> reporting tab --> check 'write report a text file in directory' --> fill in the report directory --> Rerun your job and go to the report directory to open the log file. You may see some interesting information.

Thanks for your help. I found that the script generated by my M Plan caused a syntax error because I named my Operator Jim's Operator - the quote mark caused a syntax error!
