Using VS 2017 Pro on a SSRS 2012 server?

  • I used VS in the past plenty of times, but usually I use the VS that's the same year as the SQL/SSRS server. However, in my current case, I'm working in VS 2017 Pro and I have a SSRS 2012 server. I created a report in VS2017 and when I went to upload the RDL file to the report server, I get a message that it cant upload it because the definition is different.

Is there a plug in that I can install to make VS2017 backward compatible?

I'll keep doing my own research but wanted to post this as well.

    Thanks!

Check the TargetedServerVersion in the project properties and change it there.
