This really grinds my gears

  • People sending me excel documents zoomed to less than 100% yes thank you all your rows and columns now fit on one screen in an unreadable small size, bonus points when there's multiple tabs in the excel document.

  • How about Excel files that have tons of embedded VBA scripts in them that do all sorts of magic data retrieval and manipulation written by a "power user" of the system, that then doesn't match reports written by IT so some other user complains about it and IT has to fix it.

  • Or the evil of people who hide columns/rows

Or the evil of people who hide columns/rows

And the ones who save the document with the cursor on a cell in column XFD - thanks so much, just what I wanted to see.

Isn't that what data compression does?

  • I "love" the ones that remind me of many of the posts on these very forums... you know the ones... they send you a spreadsheet with a note "This doesn't work.  Please fix it for me". 😀

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

"Please fix it for me yesterday"

  • Or random sections of worksheets used for different things.

    Or auto-calculate macros.

  • Or my fav:  The spreadsheet that has "no" manual intervention that I'm expected to load every day, that changes mysteriously every now and then because someone other than the usual person created it.  Turns out that they didn't like the spelling of a column or something.

  • Nothing beats the ones that have data connections to the "my documents" folder of the loon that created that all important spreadsheet who was then sacked disgracefully and had their profile deleted!!
