Replicate Oracle to Oracle with SQL Server Replication

  • I've managed to get SQL Server Replication server working, replicating Oracle to Oracle. Have had it in production for a few weeks now.

I've only tested the following versions:
    2014 and 2016
    11gR2 and 12C

    Hi Jeff
I'm curious as to why someone would take this route given both SQL Server and Oracle have their own replication tools available.
Oracle's golden gate is pricey and they did get rid of streams in 12c but advanced replication(12.1) still exists.

  • Hi Alex,

We have a large amount of SQL Server Enterprise licenses already, and do not wish to purchase more Oracle licenses. We also use the same replication server to replicate Oracle to Oracle, to replicate SQL Server to Oracle, and SQL Server to SQL Server. We are in the middle of culture transition so we need a lot of flexibility without commitment to more licensing. Streams performance is also not ideal for enterprise data movement in the volume we replicate.

    Best,
    Jeff
