Back when SQLSaturday was in the #20’s or so I bought SQLHotties.com, thinking it would be good for an April Fools joke to build a mock ‘adult’ site that catered to/featured people from the SQL community. I was at SQLSaturday #33 in Charlotte not long after that, talking with some friends about work and life and ideas, and I mentioned SQLHotties. It was good for some laughter – a lot of laughter, except one friend didn’t think it was a good idea at all. That friend, whose opinion I think much of, repeatedly told me it was a bad idea. Now keep in mind I just wanted a spoof, I didn’t plan to actually build a working site. It didn’t seem like a horrible idea to me, but that warning resonated and so I decided to put it off a year and think about it. Then 2011 came around and I wasn’t sure. And 2012 and 2013. This year the domain renewal was Mar 30, so to use it I had to renew it. Do it or not? Lack of time and lack of enthusiasm made it easy to just say no on the renewal and cross it off the list.
Missed opportunity or missed fail? Hard to say, but I still grin thinking about it!
