I have installed 2016 SQL Server instance which has ReportDb of compatibility 2012.
SSRS is of 2012 version, when I point the database to the named instance of 2016,
I get error message :
"The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid or it cannot be read.
The found version is 175, expected version is 162.(rsInvalidReportServerDatabase).
I tried to delete record from table ServerUpgradeHistory, but it didn't work either.
Do i need to have SSRS 2016 installed in order to connect to Report Server database even though compatibility is 2012?

No forward compatibility......you need to install the SSRS version that is expected.
