Today I watched DATAVIZ YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD NOT DO WITH SSRS by Jason Thomas. The intro felt long, but once the content started it was fun to watch someone do some nice tricks with Reporting Services as far as visualizing data. The focus was using the capabilities provided with Reporting Services in unusual (to me anyway) ways to get the results you want. Visualization is a two part problem; first figure out a good/right way to visualize the data, then figure out how to do it with the tools you have. I can see from watching this that deciding on the visualization first has some advantages, it puts you into the “how can I get the report to do x” mode. Worst case is you can’t and have to step back or iterate some. Definitely worth watching just for the ideas.
