Hi all,
In SQL SERVER production environment we have 8 processors, we have one tempdb data file ..Is there any chance that by adding datafiles in TEMPDB, impacts the performance???

John Mitchell-245523 - Friday, January 27, 2017 8:53 AMWithout knowing anything about your environment, I'd say it would be more likely to have a positive effect than negative. But don't go adding too many! Have a read through this before you do anything, and also click on the links therein.John

There are some suggestions on how to do this but there really is nothing definitive - Microsoft's documentations are conflicting. It's probably best if you read one of the other articles on the same site as the earlier link. It has a link to one of Microsoft's articles on this as well as some suggestions.
A SQL Server DBA myth a day: (12/30) tempdb should always have one data file per processor core
