Upgradation and MIgration

    Hi All,
    What is the difference between migration and upgradation in SQL SERVER. Can any one explain with example?

    I'm not sure either word is officially defined.  In purely semantic terms, I'd say migration is moving data, users etc to a different system (whether that be a different database, server, SAN, for example), whereas upgrade (there's no such word as upgradation) is the substitution of one system (server, OS, SAN, etc) for one of a more modern version.
