    Try again.

You won't be able to do anything with the .mdb without SQL Server.

Given that it's a pointless exercise, and the risk of playing with your RAR file, you may find folks are reluctant to respond.

What good is restoring a file is going to do if you don't have SQL Server installed? How do you plan to use it? If you can get SQL Server installed, then you can do the restore and also use it.

Also, I won't open an unknown archive like that. Keep in mind that many of us on this site are DBAs, so we're a bit sensitive about security right out of the gate.

Can you tell us a little bit more about this file? It is NOT a valid SQL Server backup file so what is it?

    😎

  • Actually I got the coding for a school vb.net software and the database file I can not open I will use OLedb objects for this project , Please if you can help me to convert this file to mdb file than it will be easy for me.

    thanks

  • As everyone else has said, you're going to find it unlikely that anyone will be willing to download your Archive file and open it.

We would be better off troubleshooting your installation, as you can't use the file if you don't have SQL Server running. What problems did you encounter when you were doing the installation? What were the errors?

    thanks

Go back to the source ;-). Ask the one who gave you the RAR file to unzip it, restore the BAK and just deliver the (detached) database files (both MDF and LDF).

Btw: if it is a regular SQL backup you can easily install SQL Server Express. Like most Microsoft applications this is a next-next-finish installation to get you up-and-running. With the Express installation you can restore the BAK file yourself.
