Wow, can you believe it’s been a month already since I posted the first issue of “What’s In My Utility Belt?”? Time flies when you’re having fun. Or when you’re really busy. A lot has happened since that first issue – I became, once again, a Rockstar Blogger, I built a treadmill desk that only a redneck could love, and I went to Vegas and came back with a crunchy candy shell. I also added a few new tools to the utility belt.
First, let’s discuss a format change. Rather than list (and re-list) my entire tools collection in a new post each month, I’ve moved the collection to a dedicated page. Each new issue will simply call out the new additions as they’re added to that page.
Second, I’ve decided not to list commercial paid software here. I’m only going to include free tools.
With that out of the way, let’s move on to this month’s new tools. New additions to my utility belt this month are all SQL scripts:
- Adam Machanic’s sp_WhoIsActive stored procedure. I’ve actually used this for a long time, but I failed to include it in the initial list. Read more here about how I use sp_WhoIsActive.
- my own sp_BackupDatabases stored procedure
Read more about these, and see the full list of utilities on my Top Free SQL Tools page.
That’s it for this month. I know, it’s not much of an issue, but I’m still suffering a turkey hangover from yesterday’s Thanksgiving feast. It’s naptime!
