I would have expected an error, but the error i expected was not in the list of possible answers (given that SQL Server sting functions are 1-based)
so had to dig in and learned something interesting in the process, thanks Drew

This is what '' two apostrophes with nothing between them means ... nothing. The result was nothing not to be confused with NULL.
Ironically, when I click your screenshot, my screen shows a blank result (no screenshot) in both Edge and Chrome browsers.
