my client wants me to set up an incremental database backup, which entails restoring to a device, not a file
I need to transfer that to a development machine
I have transferred backup via .BAK files for a decade now but how do I handle a device backup?
thanks

Is it a tape backup device or something else?

It is possible if the device is (or can be made) available on the other server. From there you can do a normal restore action.

You need to create a logical device on the destination server pointing to the same location as the device on the originating server.
The paragraph "Use a logical device" on this URL can help you understand it.

How to do it depends on if it's a tape or file - that's why Evgeny asked which one.
Devices just point to the backup on tape or the name of the backup on the file system. If it's pointing to a file, you can copy or move that as you would any other file.

It's all on disks - I'll try and see what the name of the file created with a device backup is
sadly, the server can access the development machine - but not vice versa -
