I have inherited a system on which Dbmail has been configured and is working, it has a number of profiles each of which serve a different reporting purpose.
However, no email profile has been set up for the SQL Agent. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to not setting a mail profile for the SQL Agent, normally this is something that I would do but had never thought as to why it should not be.

The advantage to setting it up would be that SQL Agent could use Database mail for jobs, alerts, etc.
I'm not sure what the disadvantage would be to setting it up other than if you were getting into the debates about it being a single point of failure and such. As long as it's not the old SQL mail, I don't care as that piece was horrible and so many people used Gert Drapers stored proc instead.
