mdf_MSSQL_DBCC8, .ndf_MSSQL_DBCC8 extension files

  • Hello,

Can see few files against one database with extension as (mdf_MSSQL_DBCC8, .ndf_MSSQL_DBCC8 extension files). Are these database sparse files generated part of dbcc command? But currently there is no such job running and it is still residing and consuming a lot of space.

Any suggestion how to remove them?

    Thanks.

dbccc8 is appended to the files for the internal snapshot generated for dbcc checkdb.
I've only seen them not delete once and it was a non-prod environment - the dbcc had an error and the files could not be deleted as they were seen as in use by SQL Server. Not production so a restart was okay and cleaned them up.
