SQL Server 2016 data compression

  • SQL Server 2016 SP 1 Standard Edition now supports Data compression! Previously, this was only available in the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server.

Do we lose any performance if the tables are compressed?

Because I plan to use it for my DWH

    Thank you

  • Compression takes extra CPU. Typically this loss of CPU cycles is made up for by reducing I/O, but that would be something you'd have to test with your system and workload.
