Restore DB with Full and T-log vs. Full, T-log and Differentail

  • Hi,

I have my database in Full Recovery Mode, I am taking just Full backup(everyday at 9 PM) and T-log every 15 minutes, if the database were to crash at 1:20 am, how much data loss will I be facing?

Second scenario, Full backup every at 10 PM, Differential every 6 hours and T-log every 15 mins, database crashes at 1 :20 am, how much data loss will I be facing in this case?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Both scenarios, either 5 minutes or 0 minutes, depending whether you can back up the tail of the log or not.

  • For First Scenario:

Restore Full Backup done at 9 Pm followed by T-logs till 1:15AM

    For Second Scenario:

    It would be the same?

  • You can, it'll work fine.

Or, if there was a differential backup at midnight, you could restore the 9pm full, the midnight diff and the logs until 1:15
