Problem with net framework 3.5 installing sql 2012 server

  • Hi to all.

During an installation of SQL 2012 server I had a problem with feature .net 3.5.

I tried to install it but .net 3.5 doesn't install.

Someone has had the same problems?

I read solutions on microsoft forums but no solution helps me.

  • You need to add .Net 3.5 as a Feature using the Windows Server Manager.

  • I've done it.

I also tried to force the net framework 3.5 using the dism command and so on, but nothing, it didn't install

Did you have to specify an alternative source for the install files (Sources\SxS)

Its hard to say since we don't know what solutions you tried or what the errors were. With the most common solutions that seems to work, which of the hotfixes did you remove to redo the install?

  • Another thing to check is your error log.  That should indicate why .NET didn't install.
Which version of windows are you installing this on?

The above is all just my opinion on what you should do.
As with all advice you find on a random internet forum - you shouldn't blindly follow it.  Always test on a test server to see if there is negative side effects before making changes to live!
I recommend you NEVER run "random code" you found online on any system you care about UNLESS you understand and can verify the code OR you don't care if the code trashes your system.

  • windows server 2012 R2

  • All microsoft bulletin/forums says to uninstall these two security updates KB2966827 and 296688 but on my server I haven't theese two security updates.

All microsoft bulletin/forums says to uninstall these two security updates KB2966827 and 296688 but on my server I haven't theese two security updates.

Those are the updates that cause the issue. Before uninstalling them try the fix for the issue:
Update for the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2

  • what is the contents of your cbs.log file (C:/Windows/logs/cbs/cbs.log)?

That should also indicate why it failed to install.
Also, have you installed KB3005628?  That was a patch so you didn't need to uninstall those other updates.
And is the machine internet enabled?

And as Henrico Bekker pointed out, did you specify an alternate source?

The above is all just my opinion on what you should do.

  • As I said, I used all workaround found on the net and a I used all solutions that microsoft gives on forum and on technet.

    Nothing woks.

If you removed all three, since some have had to remove the three, and rebooted after the changes then you probably need to open a case with Microsoft if you tried every fix and also applied the 3005628 update to address the issue.

  • On my server there aren't the three security updates installed....

  • What does your cbs.log file look like?  That should better point to what the error condition is.

The above is all just my opinion on what you should do.

And you never reported the errors. Check this other post if all you are doing is checking the updates, not likely as you said you tried every solution available on the internet:
Attempting to Install .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Fails with Error Code 0x800F0906 or “the source files could not be downloadedâ€, even when supplying source

The error would appear when enabling the feature but it sounds like you get no errors, said you have tried every solution that is available on the internet, have rebooted after any changes. So it seems like you should open a case.
