trying to Upgrade to sql 2008 r2

  • Here are the specs

We have sql server 2005 version 9.00.4035 running on a windows 2003 server with sp2.

trying to upgrade to a windows enterprise 2008 r2 server with sql 2008 r2 version 10.50.6000

I detached the database and log files for a single database and copied them to the sql 2008 r2 box in the appropriate folders. The 2008R2 could not see the files so the attach did not work.

I backed up a database on the sql2005 box to a file share on the sql2008 r2 using a backup device. I could not restore it because the GUI could not recognize the backup device. Stumped I am.

  • Sounds like permission errors.

Post the error messages you are getting please.

  • Yes, it does sound like a permissions issue.

  • I solved this. All I can say is stupid is as stupid does

  • What was the resolution?

  • The detach and attach commands worked. Just had to reference the correct files.:hehe:
