Greetings all. Some of my team just got new 64 bit machines, so we installed 64 bit SQL Server 2012 Express. I did not realize there was a 32 bit ODBC admin as well as 64 bit ODBC admin until now. My problem is that I think since SQL Server is a 64 bit version and I try to set up a linked server, it is looking for the DSN to be in the 64 bit ODBC administrator. We are unable to configure our 64 bit DSN's for some reason. I am wondering two things. 1) Is it possible for us to simply install the x86 version of SQL Server Express on a x64 machine? or 2) Is it possible to configure 64 bit SQL Server Express to look in the 32 bit ODBC administrator for the DSN. Thanks to any help out there.
Greg

SQL Server 2012 does come in both 32bit and 64 editions.
You can find the download page here (it's the last option in the download list).
As for the DSN, I'm afraid I don't know, but I'm sure someone else will be able to answer before you start reinstalling all your software.

In case anyone is interested, I had no problem using the 32 bit installation package on x64 machine. It had no problem finding the correct DSN from the 32 bit ODBC administrator. In my humble opinion, the ODBC administrator thing is a huge shortcoming on Microsoft's part.

I agree, especially since Microsoft seems to keep moving away from other technologies toward ODBC:

Yet the interface for the ODBC administrator hasn't been updated in a decade or more. There's still even some Windows 95 style dialogs for selecting a file.
