DBCC checkdb - does it spread to other pages?

  • I do understand database corruption is bad, does it matter if the corruption is detected right away or after a week? I mean does the corruption spread to other pages?

  • Yes, it matters, but not because it's contageous (it's not)

It matters because after a week or two or a month or ... you may not have the backups you need to be able to restore without data loss.

  • Thanks. Looks like i cannot prevent corruption but may be able react quickly.
