SQL Server 2014 backup and restore both failing - was working fine up to midday yesterday

  • Afternoon,

I am lost at the moment for ideas. Up to midday yesterday I could back and restore without issue. Something has then changed such that when I try to restore a database it reports ' no backupset selected to be restored' and when I try to backup I get the error 'Backup database is terminating abnormally'.

I have another server which is running fine and able to restore the backups without issue. I therefore don't believe it is a permissions issue.

My last attempt will be to restart the server this evening. No errors other than the generic ones are being returned.

    Has anyone experienced this?

    Many Thanks for the help

    Oliver

  • dump file attached, I hope it helps

  • This seems to be the same issue.

I will try the restart and the SP2 update.

    I hope this resolves.

  • First question is probably does the following file exist:

    C:\SQL-backups\ODM\ANALYTICS_RESULTS_backup_2016_10_26_060001_4910167.trn

If it does exist, rename it (it may be corrupted), and retry the backup.

  • Here's an article to help you troubleshoot: Troubleshooting Access Violation caused by Database Backup in SQL Server 2008/R2[/url]

The article is for SQL2008R2 but perhaps it can also be applied to SQL2014.

  • result - restarting, then installed SP2, then CU2 fixed the issue!

    Cheers
