Unable to install SP1 or SP1 CU5

  • I have SQL Server 2014 installed along with .NET 3.5 and 4.5

When I try to install SQL 2014 SP1 I get the following error: Please advise.

The Microsoft >NET Framework 2.0 or 4.0 must be installed on your computer before you can install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Setup Support Files. Please install the .NET Framework 2.0 or 4.0 and then install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Setup Support Files.

NOTE: I have installed this on multiple servers with no problems.

  • Hi,

It seems that the error msg. is pretty straightforward. Please install either one of them, preferrably 4.0.

    Thanks

  • Yes, I have tried that but it says 4 is already a part of this operating system and will not install.

  • Try installing 2.0 or remove 4.5, and install 4.0 as per books online. However, it does not make much sense to remove 4.5, and install 4.0, but you can certainly give it a try. Please read the article below for the actual requirements.

  • Thank you. I'll give uninstalling a try. I did install 2.0 and it didn't fix.

  • I have same problem... please help T___T

  • Please find below the requirements from msdn books online. It should provide you all the answers that you need.

  • Please do not uninstall any version of .Net on any box you hope to continue to use. There are a vast number of inter-dependencies that may get broken. Even if you get the uninstall and reinstall to work, you may end up with a box that behaves differently to a fresh build.

If you think uninstalling .Net is an answer to the problem you have, then raise a case with Microsoft and follow their advice. They can run more diagnostics than you can, and have access to more troubleshooting tools than you do. You can also use the support call as a learning opportunity.

If you have Service Assurance than you have a number of free support calls each year, so use one of these. If you do not have SA, then your manager is more likely to be willing to pay for a support call than to have you spend days fixing a problem that might have been avoided.
