The irk about the "Use 32-bit" option

  • Today marked the upteenth time I'm confronted with an error with either an ssis or dts package or job in sql server fails with an error that turns out to have nothing to do with the issue

So in the end the error was caused that by doing an update of the package the "Use 32-bit" option was ticked off

(Here it was a job to collect data from an oracle source, but I'm seeing this also when dealing with excel sources)

Now what is my issue, we now are in a kind of inbetween 32 & 64 bit

Why is the option not "Use 64-bit",that would make more sense, since the option is not ticked on by default it would auto revert to the 32 bit version which works instead of the 64 bit version which is not yet supported for most products.

  • Heh... Microsoft knows how boring IT jobs can be and they try to keep things exciting. 😛

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
