***SPOILER FREE*** Star Wars: The Force Awakens

  • :w00t:

Went to see this last night, and this took me back to when I saw A New Hope in the theaters originally! Went to a 7:30pm showing, was surprised the theater wasn't completely packed, but then, it was a Thursday night, so (I think) some folks might've stayed home because the kids have to go to school today.

The wife and a friend of ours are going to see it today (which is when I was originally supposed to go,) she had a few issues with it, but I think she's being picky...

The two new lead characters both come across as believable and relatable, while the chemistry between them works.

Will I go see it again? Yeah, most likely. The Mom-In-Law is likely to want to see it, and if my sisters kids drop enough hints I'll probably take them as well. Heck, I might even suggest both of those to the wife, I doubt she'd object either way.

    So, my score?

    4.75 out of 5

  • I'm stunned to read that it wasn't completely sold out. I had read somewhere that most venues have been sold out for a while now. I'll definitely go and see it, but probably not this weekend.

It's nice to hear that they did a good job with it.

  • I wouldn't rate it as high. I felt it was just a mashup of the previous movies. Taking so many elements of the previous movies made it predictable.

I had a great time and enjoyed the movie, but somehow, I expected something different.

I agree the plot seemed like a redux of the original "Episode IV - A New Hope".

My favorite episode was "The Empire Strikes Back". For me that's the definitive episode. There was a lot going on in terms of plot and story development with the Luke's training as a Jedi knight, the battle on Hoth, Lando Calrissian, and character revelations. The other films are kind of thin by comparison, but they are all worth watching.

  • I haven't seen it yet, but my daughter and son-in-law have and they said "If it wasn't a Star Wars movie, it would be a 'wait for the DVD' movie." They were disappointed. I've heard that from a few others.

//Updated// Saw the movie last night, won't reveal any spoilers, but I do agree with my daughter and son-in-law. I saw the original movies when they first came out and was thrilled...even saw them multiple times on video. I won't be seeing this movie again. It did have some good points and some originality, so I am glad I did see it...but it's not worth (IMO) watching again. I will most likely see the rest of the movies in the theater just because they are Star Wars movies and I'll hold out hope for improvement in the story line.

BTW (not a spoiler)...if you've read the books, this veers from the books. They have 'ruled' that any books that covered things which happened in the previous movies 'canon' and any other books 'legend'. Kind of like a 'reboot' of life after Episode VI. So don't watch the movie and think...that didn't happen in the book...it didn't, the book is myth/legend/a different universe.

Agreed I would be interested to read about this. I have not heard anything about the way they treat IT people. I know a couple of people who were cast member at Disney World and they always were happy about the way they were treated. Good treatment probably goes a long way to them being able to maintain that constantly happy demeanor with the guests.

Unfortunately, they're hiring people from India instead of the southern neighbors. However, I always remember a meme about this: http://i.imgur.com/shDmF0L.jpg

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the folks inside those character costumes at Disney's Magic Kingdom are Mexicans. I know that's the case for those guys who dress up like green Androids and dance on the side of the road promoting cell phone stores. However, that gig must be pure hell in the middle of summer, and I doubt many Americans would sign up for the job.

I'm sure we all know that the lady who files one of the suits is absolutely correct - Disney's doing it to make more money. I already have reservations there next month and believe me...they make plenty of money. Nothing is cheap there. It was a great experience back in 2011 and I'm looking forward to the Star Wars part of the park.

And what's with the Jedi Training being for younglings only?!?!? I really wanted to participate in that, but it's only for the kids.

I hope they don't forget that "the magic" doesn't just happen and that quality people are needed to create (or maintain) a quality experience.
