Changing Server IP Address After Installing SQL 2012

  • Here is the scenario we have:

    1. Installed SQL Server

    2. Changes the server IP addresses (to move to a less secure LAN for development)

We found that after we did this we could connect with the new IP address BUT the IP Addresses tab under the TCP/IP Protocol Name for "Protocols for MSSQLSERVER" still has old IP address. Do we have to change this manually? What are the considerations?

  • Remove the settings from that address and configure IpAll.

    You should be fine.

  • Thanks a lot.

So the old IP address remains there, correct?

  • It shouldn't, but it won't do any harm if you're listening on all addresses.
