I've downloaded a demo app which uses SQL Express. Honestly I thought I already had SQL Express on my PC, but I discovered that once I tried running it, that it failed. I have SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on my PC. I was thinking of putting SQL Express 2014 onto my PC, but is that a bad idea? Should I stick with SQL Express 2012?

You can install SQL Server on a computer that is already running instances of an earlier SQL Server version. If a default instance already exists on the computer, SQL Server must be installed as a named instance. Anyway express edition will be installed as a named instance
