Hi experts,
we are about to start a logshipping with the secondary server in read only mode.
I just wanted to know the disadvantages of using a read only on the secondary server.
I mean whether the transactional logs will be restored periodically or it won't be restored till users are connected on the secondary server
🙂

its not really a disadvantage as you are allowing your secondary to be gainfully used, but you will not be able to restore transaction logs to the secondary whilst users are connected to it, unless you kick the users off, which they might not want.
For this reason logshipping is flawed at providing a reporting database, you cannot get the latency you think you might achieve without tight control on when the secondary can be used.

George has already covered this but the question is How much latency can be afforded?
