SSRS Custom Data Source Weird Error

  • Hi Folks,

There is an Issue we are facing for some time now in our SSRS server. There was a work around so I was not able to give enough importance to fix this issue but now it needs to be fixed. Details are as below. If anyone has faced similar situations and have got it fixed, kindly advise.

We are using SSRS 2012 and we have a shared data source that all report uses. This shared data source uses a custom data source. Connection is fine and all report can be viewed fine.

The problem arises when I try to Launch Report Builder (3.0) and try to create a new Dataset or modify the existing one. I get bellow error. (screenshot also attached)

The selected data extension <data extension name> is not installed or cannot be loaded. Verify that the selected extension is installed on the client for local reports and on the report server for published report.

As mentioned earlier, the connectivity is fine since these reports do exist already. The problem appears whenever we try to edit existing reports or try to create new datasets.

The workaround that I was talking about was to create the Dataset anyway after the error message and instead of doing 'Refresh fields', type manually each field in the 'Fields' tab in Dataset window. This is cumbersome and is time consuming for Datasets that have long list of fields

    Regards,

Even a shared connection works with SQL Server Type. If I create a shared connection with the Custom Data Source type then there is this issue.
