Good to know. Nice question, thanks.
Need an answer? No, you need a question

An interesting question to be sure. Thanks.

I was 95% sure the answer would be "NO" because avoiding it would keep backup and restore less complex than they would otherwise have to be, while having it doesn't really add anything useful since adding the file before starting the backup if it is wanted in the backup is a reasonably convenient alternative for the DBA. So I picked that as my guess and it was right.
It's an interesting question, because MS doesn't always adopt what looks like the sensible and easy approach to SQL Server features.

I learned something from this. Thanks for the question Dathuraj.

Interesting question. I figured I would get it wrong and that SQL Server would have a strange option to add a file during backup. Doesn't seem like a reasonable thing to do imo but that doesn't mean MS wouldn't allow it! Glad that there were no tricks here. 😀

That makes sense. Thanks.

My thought when reading your comment is what I considered to be a slightly ambiguous understanding of the question text when I first read it. I.e. did the question indicate some kind of Backup option by which a new Log File could be added, or could a new Log File be added by an external process while the Backup process is executing.
Or I could have had temporary brain-deadness when reading the question.
