We have a hosted app where the vendor agreed to send us the database via Log Shipping. We want the database so we can get at the data, not for DR or anything like that. Daily I get a zip of tx backups. I restore in order and have a Standby/Read-Only copy available to query. Sometimes the zip is corrupt/incomplete/etc... so I have to request it from the vendor again and I'm afraid sooner or later the Log Shipping chain is going to break. I asked the vendor to also give me a full backup every so often... like every two weeks so if the Log Shipping breaks I have a starting point to bring it back up. They balked and said if the Log Shipping breaks they will give me a current full on an ad-hoc basis. I read about taking the db offline, copying the mdf & ldf and putting that database up elsewhere http://blogs.lessthandot.com/index.php/datamgmt/datadesign/backup-and-copy-warm-standby-log-shipped/. It works, but I get a recovered database. Is there ANY way I can get a "backup" of the Standby/Read-Only database that can be put in place as a Standby/Read-Only and used ?
Thanks everyone for your time.

No.
