I have SSMS 2014 installed on my workstation, which also runs a SQL 2008R2 servers in dev edition. To install a patch to SSMS, should I install the CU for SQL 2014 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2931693) or there is another approach?
Thanks.

Dear Seaport, What he meant was...you don't install patch to SSMS...your question itself is wrong.

I think SSMS (the management studio) is just like any other software and needs update/fix/patch. Am I missing something?
To clarify, among the long list of SQL 2014 CU1, only one item is related to SSMS.
My question is whether to install the CU1, or there is a way to just add that one fix.

To patch SSMS you run the SQL/Server patching just like you are patching the DB Server. In other words download and execute the latest SP or CU. The latest update for SQL/Server 2014 is CU6:

Seaport, You don't patch specifically for SSMS ...you patch for SQL server and it takes care of the SSMS as well. So, in your case, as Dewayne said, you just install patching for SQL server 2014 latest patch since you are using SSMS 2014.
