Nice question, I even did a test to ensure myself.
Note: Even though there is possibility to register a server with SQL Authentication to the CMS, on executing a query against the CMS there is an error message "The server is not connected".
Thanks,

Good question. I confess that I saw Central Management Server, and dismissed it as a dummy name for the servers related to SQL Server CENTRAL. Sigh.
At least I learned something. Thanks Steve.
Merry Christmas to all!

Maybe with my poor understanding of the English language I missed something , but what about the following link ?
It was a Microsoft Connect feedback created by Aaron Bertrand who wrote
Microsoft closed the connect as someone of the SQL Server Team has modified the documentation
"I have removed the content that incorrectly documented the requirements for use of Windows Authentication. The change will be published in Books Online for SQL Server 2008 R2"
Unless there is a novelty with 2012 or 2014
Have a nice day
PS : I have forgotten : happy Christmas for everybody ( I am in the 25th of December now )

Had to do some R&D to figure this out, as I tried to test it myself, found that I can register CMS with both Windows or SQL Authentication, so I went Google it.
Thanks & Best Regards,
