What the best choice certificates to take MCSA SQL 2008 or MCSA SQL 2012 and why?

  • I want to take SQL Server Certificate , but I wonder which certificate I must take it , MCSA SQL Server 2012 which consist of three exams (70-461 , 70-462 , 70-463) or MCSA SQL Server 2008 which consist of two exams (70-432 , 70-448) Microsoft said both certificate will continue , but MCTS was retired that's mean if i want to take MCSA SQL Server 2008 I must pass the two exams , one exam only means nothing because no MCTS any more , my point now is I have experience in SQL 2008 and I work now on SQL 2008 so what the best choice for me to start my first certificate MCSA SQL 2008 or MCSA SQL 2012 , and are the MCSA SQL Server 2008 has the same significance on work market like MCSA SQL Server 2012

  • Personally, I'd go for the 2012 certificates.

They are a bit harder to get than the 2008 exams (you now have to do three exams), but you get to know the latest features.

If you can pass the 2012 exams, you should be able to pass the 2008 exams, in theory.

Do the 2012 certifications have a bigger significance in the market place?

Hard to say. You can question yourself if they have any significance at all, because they are so easy to cheat.

Need an answer? No, you need a question

  • It's hard to say if the 2012 exams have greater significance in the marketplace now, but in the future they will. Would you want to send out a resume with a SQL 2005 Certification and the HR screener thinks "Well, the hiring manager says he wants the person to manage SQL 2008 and 2012."

That's why I am working toward SQL 2012 exams only now.
