Broken formatting

  • There is something wrong with the formatting of various posts in the following topic:

    https://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums/topic/explanation-of-like-0-9

Yes, it starts with my post. No, I was not doing anything "special" or what have you (this topic is from way back in 2013, before I knew how to do any of that stuff). The posts in that particular thread throw off the formatting more than I have seen in other places. But it also shows lots of links that are no longer links but do end with "[/url]". A lot of signatures are also exhibiting that same issues with links.

  • This is data cleanup, which is ongoing. Migration was very complex and we didn't catch all issues. We're working through some of these.

  • Ok, so should I continue reporting things like this that I come across, or do you have some way of detecting the incorrectly formatted items? Your forum signature, for example, has both a broken image and the incorrectly formatted URL. I think my signature initially had the URL problem, but can't remember.

    Take care, Solomon..

  • You can keep reporting. The image in my sig is something I need to fix. It's been broken a long time. The URLs are just text listed. The underlying links work.

  • Ok, will report as I find stuff.

And re: the signature links, yes the Twitter and blog links are fine. I am referring to the middle / 2nd line which shows as:

Forum Etiquette: How to post data/code on a forum to get the best help[/url]

But if you view the page source, you see:

    <a class="d4pbbc-url" target="_blank" href="http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/61537"></a>
Forum Etiquette: How to post data/code on a forum to get the best help[/url]

As you can see, the anchor tag has no text in it. The text comes after the anchor tag, for some reason, which is why the text is not a link. This is the same issue I reported to Lynn, which is how I found that the code block was still translating HTML tags and BBCode, and why I asked for an HTML option in the language list (though yes, that is a lower priority than many of the other requests; just a nice-to-have).

    Take care, Solomon...
