Hi,
Have a data base used for third party software. Looking to upgrade to SQL 2012 and because the current version won't go to 2012 I was thinking about installing it and running it on 2008 comparability mode, applying the latest third party software which will upgrade the database to be compatible with 2012 and then changing it to run in 2012 mode.
This seemed more sensible than installing 2008, doing the upgrade on that and then upgrading 2008 with 2012.
Has anyone done anything like this or had issues with changing the compatibility mode?
Cheers

There are always some issues with upgrades. May or may not affect your 3rd party stuff but it sounds like you have a good plan.
I'd do it on a test box, first, though.

Changing the compatibility mode after your third party software upgrade is in place should be fine. As Jeff indicated, you definitely want to do this in a test environment first.
