ServicePack

  • Hi,

Is there any way to find the service pack release date for Sql 2014

  • Not without asking Microsoft what their timescales are.

Can always keep you eye on http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.co.uk/, they are pretty good at keeping the CU's and SP's up to date.

  • Sorry to find the future service pack release dates

  • Microsoft has stated they are trying to release one Service Pack a year, but we have no idea on dates. They used to release the first one 6 months after RTM, but no idea of that is what they will do for SQL Server 2014.

We keep a build list here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/Build+List/71065/

To date, I haven't heard anything about a service pack for SQL Server 2014. I believe that Microsoft would like to get away from SPs and continue with only CUs, but I have no knowledge of their plans.

  • Hello,

I just spent last week going over this!

You may want to do some research on Microsoft's Future policy for Service Packs. There are some hints out there that they are doing away with Service Packs completely. A few of the normal blogs out there have gone into great detail the stats of how long they are going without any Service Packs.

That being said the only other option are installing the Cumulative Updates. Microsoft hasn't changed the wording on these CU's either.

The current stance as a means of "best practice" really is to apply the CU's in a very well tested environment.

Here is a great response: http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/69354/ms-sql-server-cumulative-updates-best-practices

    Hope this helps !

    Jeremy

    PS

--I am currently installing the CU's to one of our test servers 😉
