I heard the keynote was very weak.

I'll probably never go to PASS, as a Jack-of-All-Trades, there are too many conferences opportunities both commercial and OSS, so priorities are in order.

I haven't been to one of these types of conferences in years. But what I recall it's like a Comic Con for IT people. Lots of panels, lots of people, lots of vendors, just lots of craziness. Eventually you find yourself in a panel you care nothing about just so you can rest, and end up really enjoying it.

Not too many panel. It's a conference with lots of sessions where people are speaking on various topics and teaching. A few panels, vendor booths, certainly some fun events.

I managed to attend the Summit when it went to Charlotte. I heard the pre-conference sessions were the best place to gain some knowledge...AFTER the conference. The normal sessions were a waist of time, especially since you had to get to the room 30 minutes prior to start. I definitely think the best benefit is the networking.

The pre-cons can be really useful, but also cost extra to attend. The best place to get knowledge depends on what you're trying to learn. You can learn a lot from other attendees, from most sessions, from the chalk-talks, from vendors, from ask the experts, and from all sorts of areas. Yes, there were quite a few full rooms well before those speakers arrived, but there were also a lot of rooms that weren't full for some great sessions.

Be flexible, talk to people, change up the schedule if you come across an interesting topic, and look into the BI Power Hour if they're doing it again (sit on the front row). It's always entertaining even if not always practical. 🙂
