Hi - I've been asked to setup a new instance for a single database that wil be used for reporting for a software vendor. I already have one instance running a number of DB's on the Server.
How do I go about setting this up without affecting the existing Instance/DB's?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

Get hold of the installation media (ISO or DVD), run setup, select installation and run through the installer selecting the option to add another instance part way through.

That's great, Many thanks. Are there any gotchas to look out for?

Not really. It may require a reboot of the server, so don't do it when people are using the databases.

Hi - I shall be running through this process tonight so just want to be absolutely clear so I don't break anything.
(1) Launch the Installer for SQL2008 R2
(2) I'm assuming go with the default selections
(3) When coming to the point of Instance selection, select 'Named Instance' and not default, as I have a number of DB's running on the default instance.
(4) The installer will then run through and create the instance but may require a restart at the end.
Does that sound correct?
Apologies, I'm sure it's very easy to do but just a bit dubious as I haven't needed to do thisbefore. Thanks again

Is that what you require or do you need to change the paths or instance config, only you will know

You've just answered your question above, you want a named instance, you may still want to modify any defaults offfered for this custom install though

From memory a reboot requirement will be very unlikely. If one is required you may suppress it and carry this out when you ready so don't worry too much
