Large Log Ship File - Copying Percentage Complete

  • Last night we had an incredibly large log file generated that log ships between our servers (2.5 gig). I am working on figuring out what caused it but my question is how do I tell how far along the file is in coping to the replication site. Since the file size shows the same on both places. I am trying to figure out how much time is left for it to copy because I am getting out of sync warnings. Any help would be appreciated.

    system info for both servers

    SQL 2008 standard

    windows Server 2008 standard

So on the secondary server all the log backup files are restored and the restore job is waiting on the 2.5 GB log backup file to finish copying so that it can start restore. Am i right? If yes, network guys should help you on that. 2.5 GB doesn't sound too big. how far your data centers are ? Did you tried to manually copy the file to secondary server?

  • One sql server is located in Wisconsin and the other is in South Carolina, the logs ship every 15 min and aren't usually larger than 100 mb. The problem I have is the server located at our South Carolina facility only has a 3 mb connection up and down which is the fastest we can get there. I know it seems unfathomable this day and age to have that be the top end speed that but that is what I'm dealing with. So a 2.5 gig file is rather large for us to pass. I will follow up with the network guy to see if he has any info. Thanks for the help.

    Jason.
