Have many of you done this? I'm considering it because my current workplace is on 2008 R2 but I'm going to start a new job soon where they are on 2012, so I want to get up to speed on that over the Christmas break.
The Express edition is a bit too limited for what I want because I want to look specifically at AlwaysOn (I know I'll need a Windows cluster for that) and database-level auditing, but before I spend about £50 of my own money I want to check I'm not making a mistake. I'm running a 64 bit version of Windows 7, which I know can run the software, but will I have full functionality with that setup, or do I need Windows Server 2008 or above?
Thanks

... or could I get the Evaluation Edition and use that for 180 days before deciding whether to pay out for the Developer Edition, does anybody know?
Thanks.

At $75.00 USD or less, just buy the Developer Edition. I find it well worth the cost.

Developer edition runs fine on Windows 7. Whether the Win 7 OS can do failover clustering is another matter, but that's the OS, not SQL.

In the UK, contact Grey Matter. They'll sell you 4 developer licences for about 40 quid. You choose what you want those licences to be for, so you could have 4 different versions if you wish.

Thank you. I think I may need to upgrade my OS anyway, but that's good to know.
Thanks also ChrisM.
