SSRS 2012 folder permissions

  • first time poster here. Not a DBA, so go easy on me. Working on a proof of concept SSRS 2012 implementation. Have two sets of users...ReportAdmins and ReportUsers who are in windows groups of the same name on the server. In SSRS in IE, under Site Settings, I have ReportsAdmins with a role asignment of ContentManager and ReportsUsers as Browsers. Have these same role assignments on the Home folder. Since all subsequent reports folders I create inherit from Home, all ReportsUsers should have Browser role on each folder. Right? Right. Now, what if I want to restrict access completely to a single person or persons on a sub-folder? I thought about a role with no permissions that I could set on that specific folder for those users, but there is no built-in role like that. I figured I must be a better way. any thoughts? TIA

  • You can break the sub folder inheritance by going to that folders security properties and removing / deleting the "ReportUser". SSRS will pop a message basically saying that the folder will no longer inherit its permissions from it parent. After confirming that message, you can just add a single user to that folder.
