Assigning Roles in SSRS R2

  • I have 2 separate installs of SSRS 2008 R2. For one install (scenario 1) when I assign a role (in report manager) to the root folder all of the folders within get that role attached to it. On the other install (scenario 2) when i assign a role to the root folder that role does not get attached to the folder/files within.

Is there a global setting that I can modify to have it behave either way.

I prefer to manually add the roles within the root folder and than only add them to the ones that I choose (scenario 2)

    thank you in advance.

  • You will need to modify all sub level folders to not inherit permissions from the root directory, That way you add permissions to the folders you want them to see, instead of them being able to see everything.

Usually do the non inheritance by going into the folder and clicking edit item security.

  • There is a tool which allows you to make security changes to all folders and sub-folders. You can also see at a glance where there are inheritance issues.

As a newbie to the forum I am not sure if I am allowed to post links- but there is a video you can see and hopefully it will show you a really fast solution.
