Need to install sqlserver service pack sp4 in a cluster server
1.what are the pre-requesties i have to follow
2.cluster is in Active/Active
also it is running for primary [ DC ] and secondary [ DR ] servers
3. if i install service pack in the DB server [ DC ]is it necessary to install in the AP [ DR ] server also ?
4. logshipping is running in primary server [ DC ]and secondary server [ DR ]
1. in this case we want to install sp4 in [ DR ] sever after monitoring
for few days we want to install in the [ DC ] server.is it possible
2. if we install in [ DR ] server for both AP and DB servers [both nodes ]
is it required to reconfigure the logshipping from DC to DR again ?
Thanks

I'm assuming you mean sql 2005 here as SQL 2008 is only at sp3.
service packs are cluster aware for the database engine although you'd need to do the nodes for the tools.
we normally patch the secondary server, DR, before the primary as this avoids issues with backups failing due to different builds.

HI colin
Here we are using sqlserver 2005 and we want to install into the Dr server first and is it required to re assign[configure the logshipping from dc to dr server] or the logshipping which is running remains same.
and also if we install in dr server ithink we have to install sp4 in both datasbase server DB and application server AP i mean in both nodes
Thanks

For sql server 2005 run the patch from the active node when you have an agreed period of downtime.

Ok thank you
Active [DB] / Active [Ap]node is running here
if i install in DB active node --- in this log-shipping is configured
if we install the service pack will all the jobs and configurations remains same [or ]need to re-configure ??
Thanks
