High memory usage by SQL server

  • Hi Friends,

I have sql server 2008 r2 sp2 64 bit in my server. The OS of my server is windows server 2008. The RAM of server is 8 GB. We have allocated 6 gb for sql server. Memory is full. There are no user sessions running in the server at present. How to identify why memory is high??

    Thanks in advance..

  • Perfectly normal, SQL will use as much memory as you have allowed it to even when no users are connected to the instance.

Take a look in my signature for the accidental DBA guide and read the chapter on memory management.
