Hello,
We're running SQL Server 2008 upgrade advisor against a SQL Server 2000 instance. When asked to identify which components to analyze, I enter the server name and click 'Detect'. The software identifies SQL Server and Data Transformation Services components. When I review the database server, I queried the MSDB database along with searching for any .dts files. Nothing - I'm not seeing any reference to Data Transformation Services. Is this a false positive?
BTW - when running the advisor regardless of my findings, I get an error message that "DTS Client is not installed on this machine. DTS upgrade advisor requires access to the DTS object model to report on DTS packages".
Any thoughts, comments, URLs would be appreciated - thank you.

One last comment - I removed the 2008 Upgrade Advisor and installed 2005. Using the detect option against the 2000 instances - the advisor shows no Data Transformation Services installed. Any thoughts / comments? I'm stuck...
Thanking in advance...

I think the machine may be missing the DLL(s) that contain the DTS Object Model.
I can't quite remember now but I think it's installed along with the Sql Client Utilities when you install Sql Server.

Can you install and run the upgrade advisor from the SQL Server 2000 instance?

I checked the advisor install requirements. For the server it requires SP2, SP1 is installed. I going to contact one of our server administrators, to see if we can ghost this server to a test environment. If so I'll upgrade to SP2 and run it. I'm not inclined to upgrade a production server at this late stage.
Regarding the DTS DLL not installed, I checked on the server, found DTSPkg.dll, semsfc.rll, sqlgui.rll and sqlsvc.rll. I don't know if that's the issue.
Good thoughts here - I'll let you know how I make out. Thank you both.
