I would like to do a test run of the Upgrade Advisor - we need to go from 2005 to 2008 - and have a few questions for those of you who have run it before:
1. Can I run the install during production hours? I'm assuming it doesn't affect the SQL Services and/or require a reboot?
2. Can I run the Upgrade Advisor during production hours, i.e. I'm assuming it doesn't lock things up or use a lot of resources?
Any advice is much appreciated...
Also, we may go from 2005 to 2012 - final decision hasn't made yet...

You can, and it will not require a reboot or affect SQL Services... However, I hesitate to ever run anything on a production server during normal production hours.

Again, yes. However, depending on your server load it may not be wise.
